Gammon Construction Limited, a joint venture between Balfour Beatty and Jardine Matheson has been awarded a £100 million (S$210 million) contract by the Singapore Land Transport Authority for the construction of Havelock Station for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system in Singapore. Work is due to start in the first quarter of 2014 and is scheduled to be completed in 2021.
Havelock Station is in close proximity to residential housing estates and commercial buildings and is on the Thomson Line – a fully underground, 30-km long line comprising 22 stations linking the North-South-East-West Line (NSEWL), Downtown Line (DTL), North-East Line (NEL) and Circle Line (CCL), providing greater accessibility and significantly improving travel time for the local community.
This is the second contract awarded to Gammon Construction for the Thomson Line, following the award of the contact for the design and construction of the Mayflower Station in 2013.

2013 rail contract wins:
- Gammon Construction (www.gammonconstruction.com) won two rail contracts in Singapore. Land Transport Authority awarded an £87 million (S$174 million) contract for the design and construction of the Mayflower Station on The Thomson Line and SMRT Trains awarded a £61 million (S$122 million) contract for track system replacement on the North-South Line.
- £209 (US$343) million joint venture contract with Graham Contracting for the Regional Transportation District in Denver USA to initiate the first phase of design and construction on the North Metro Rail Line project. This is the third in a series of electrified commuter rail lines that the JV is building across the region as part of its ambitious FasTracks programme, with the first two well under construction as part of the Eagle P3 project, where Balfour Beatty is also engaged in the delivery of the project.
- £76.5 million (A$116 million) contract to remove a pivotal rail/road level crossing in Melbourne, Australia.
