Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, announces today the appointment of Robert M. Amen as a Non-executive Director, effective from 10 June 2010.
Mr Amen was, until September 2009, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (IFF), a world-leading creator and manufacturer of flavours and fragrances, listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Prior to joining IFF in 2006, he spent over 25 years at International Paper Company, a leading US and global paper and packaging company, also listed on the NYSE, in a succession of roles culminating in his appointment as President and member of the Board in 2003. Mr Amen was also a Director of Wyeth, the US pharmaceutical and healthcare company, until its acquisition by Pfizer in October 2009.
A US national, Robert M. Amen currently serves as an Executive-in-Residence at Columbia Business School.

Neither Robert M. Amen nor his connected persons hold any interests in Balfour Beatty securities. There are no other disclosures required under Listing Rule 9.6.13.
