Balfour Beatty has today announced changes to its US Buildings & Civils Executive Leadership team, effective from April 2023.
Eric Stenman will assume responsibility for the US Buildings & Civils business as CEO. He will sit on the Group Executive Committee and report directly into Group Chief Executive Officer, Leo Quinn.
Eric, who is taking over the role from Leon Blondin, joined Balfour Beatty in 2008 as part of the Douglas E. Barnhart Inc acquisition. He has held a number of senior operational roles in the last 14 years, most recently as President of Balfour Beatty US where he supported operations across the Building and Civils portfolio as well as overseeing US-wide shared services.
In his role as CEO, Eric will build on the success of the US Buildings & Civils business, leading the c.$4.5 billion (£3.7 billion) revenue portfolio and c.4,000 employees.
Leon Blondin, currently Chief Executive Officer of US Buildings & Civils, will become US Chairman, focusing on the US business strategy and supporting Eric in the transition to his new role.
In addition, Mark Konchar is promoted to Division President for US Civils & Rail and will report directly to Eric from April. Previously, he was Managing Director of Balfour Beatty’s US Rail business. Mark has worked with Balfour Beatty since 1999 in a variety of roles spanning procurement, project delivery, large-scale design-build, design-assist and Public Private Partnership (P3) projects.
Commenting on the leadership moves, Balfour Beatty Group Chief Executive Leo Quinn, said: “The US is an important market for the Group, with excellent prospects. Leon’s elevation to US Chairman will maintain his strong involvement with the business as he evolves our strategy for the next decade of exciting growth.
"At the same time, I am confident that Eric’s step-up to CEO - given his long career with Balfour Beatty and in the wider industry - will ensure our continued success, through flawless execution of our focus on high value private projects and Federal and State infrastructure investment.
“Balfour Beatty US has first class people: I know Eric and Leon see building the next generation of leaders as key to our ambition for offering outstanding capability to customers.”
