Balfour Beatty Living Places has been awarded a £34 million, one-year extension for its Warwickshire Highways Maintenance Contract by Coventry City Council, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and Warwickshire County Council.
This latest award, which marks the second extension on the original seven-year contract will see this unique and collaborative partnership run to Spring 2025, following a history of good performance, effective asset management, delivering value for money and collaborative working with the three local authorities.
The contract extension is further testament to Balfour Beatty Living Places ongoing commitment to delivering key maintenance works to schedule across the boroughs. This commitment was most recently recognised with the company and Warwickshire County Council achieving first place for public satisfaction in the 2019 National Highways and Transport Survey for highways maintenance services across the UK.
Balfour Beatty Living Places will continue to work closely with the three Councils to deliver a variety of specialist services including winter maintenance works and installation of new energy efficient street lighting in Warwickshire.

Warwickshire County Councillor Jeff Clarke, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, said: “Warwickshire County Council wants communities to be supported by excellent transport infrastructure and the highway network is one of the council’s most valuable assets, so it is vital that it is efficiently maintained. This extension of our contract with Balfour Beatty Living Places will help us to continue our successful and long-term partnership with them and enable us to carry on delivering innovation and added value to our highway maintenance works.
"Balfour Beatty Living Places, through excellent performance, have achieved all of their Key Performance Indicators, so we have granted this new extension to them to continue managing our highway services to the usual high standards expected by our residents. This contract will continue to be used by Warwickshire County Council to deliver all of its highway maintenance requirements."
Councillor Ken Hawkins, Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment & Highways said: “The highways maintenance contract between ourselves, Coventry, Warwickshire and Balfour Beatty Living Places has proved to be successful so I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to extend it even further. I look forward to this collaboration continuing to provide a high level of service and excellent value for Solihull Residents.”

As part of the contract extension and the company’s commitment to The 5% Club, Balfour Beatty Living Places is providing five apprenticeship positions and a unique internship programme aimed specifically at young people with disabilities and additional needs to support them in gaining experience in the workplace and further develop their skills.
