Balfour Beatty’s Hong Kong joint venture, Gammon Construction, has been awarded a HK$4billion superstructure contract by Taikoo Place Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Swire Properties, for the redevelopment of Somerset House in Taikoo Place, one of Hong Kong’s best-planned business hubs.
The project involves redeveloping Somerset House into a 48-storey office building on top of a two-storey basement, covering a total gross floor area of approximately 94,000sq.m, as well as construction of the associated walkways.
Gammon Chief Executive Thomas Ho said, “We are delighted to have been selected by Swire Properties and to be involved with this landmark project. Gammon’s advanced technological standards and expertise in building construction was critical for the award of this project.”
The scheme will utilise its technological expertise across the project including the latest Building Information Modelling to define the most efficient approach to design, avoid programme and utility clashes, as well as improving environmental efficiencies.
Construction is soon to commence with completion scheduled for 2018. At construction peak the project will employ a workforce of 1,400.
