Balfour Beatty has featured on BBC Radio Surrey’s breakfast show discussing its efforts to protect site workers from the risks of UV radiation through the provision of sunscreen dispensers on sites such as the M25 Junction 10 improvement project.

In the interview, Robert Cheeseman, Head of Occupational Health at Balfour Beatty spoke about the disproportionate impact of UV radiation on construction workers and the importance of raising awareness and education to help prevent health risks.

Robert said: “42% of occupation skin cancer cases are in construction even though we’re only 8% of the workforce, so UV radiation is a big risk out there that we want to protect our people from. We treat it like any other health risk and try and eliminate it where we can, which is where the sunscreen comes in”.
