Balfour Beatty has today featured in New Civil Engineer alongside SSEN Transmission discussing the progress and complex work it is carrying out as part of the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework.
The ASTI framework will see investment of over £10 billion to upgrade the electricity transmission network infrastructure throughout northern Scotland by 2030.
Balfour Beatty has begun work on the development of nine of these Electricity Transmission schemes, providing its expertise to support SSEN Transmission identify and resolve any potential construction challenges, streamline the planning process, advise on the best use of materials, plan the phasing of work to ensure optimal productivity and scope out the use of modern methods of construction.
Speaking about the project and the early contractor involvement, Balfour Beatty's Head of Business Development and Preconstruction for Scotland, Gordon Dinning, says: “The benefit with early contractor involvement is you get constructability built in... SSEN [Transmission] was wise enough to know that it had to get the contractors on board early, especially with the volume of work across the piece."
