  • To support the estimating process and price winning tender opportunities

  • To ensure pricing is in accordance with client requirements including content, format and timescales.

What you'll be doing

As an Estimator, your accountabilities include the following:





    • Deliver areas of the bid process as allocated by the bid lead(s) in a timely and effective manner. Activities to include:







    • Review customer’s drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour and equipment

    • Ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty procedures

    • Review tender documents and submission requirements

    • Work with the operational lead to incoroporate the the delivery methods within the pricing

    • Work with the Senior Estimator(s) and Managing Estimator(s) to identify suitable sub-contractors and specialists for each project, and support the analysis of subcontractors’ pricing.



  • Use of the appropriate digital toolsets to execute cost take-off and other estimating activities

  • Support periodic Tender Health Checks and formal risk reviews to ensure that the identified risks are mitigated as far as possible in tender submissions

  • Work with the Senior Estimator(s) and Managing Estimator(s) to ensure that cost planning and estimating are accurate and reflect the project requirements and risk profile

  • Contribute to the maintenance of the company supply chain database/Estimating System with tender information from allocated bids

  • Carry out measurement and take-offs, pricing and entering into the system.

Who we're looking for

You will have the following:



  • Previous experience of involvement of pricing and estimating for projects within the construction industry is required, including understanding related risk and mitigation measures

  • Proficient in the sue of estimating software packages, Excel , Word and PowerPoint

  • Membership of a relevant professional body and/or relevant professional qualification is desirable, such as RICS/CIOB/RIBA/ICE/CIBSE

  • Good working knowledge of pricing and quantification methods is required

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships.  Able to be a strong team player, as well as work on their own initiative

  • A desire to continuously pursue innovation and development, with a focus on the customer and the business is required. Proficiency in IT, numeracy and MS Office Basic & Estimating Systems is essential.
