What you'll be doing
- Understand and support delivery of Balfour Beatty Rail HS&W Strategy and BBUK 8-Point Plan
- Contribute to the implementation, delivery and review of the BU Zero Harm Action Plan and Sustainability Action Plan (BTGP)
- Support the delivery of the HS&W Key Performance Indicators at project level
- Support work winning teams as required
- Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and BMS Requirements
- Undertake programmed support visits to operational project/s as per schedule to provide support and advice to local project team and operatives
- Produce formal reports using the Project Portal to record planned & unplanned HS&W inspections which review project performance against the UK HSES Regulatory Framework & UK Business Management System (BMS) requirements
- Undertake regular checks on Environmental Risk Management ensuring that appropriate risks and opportunities have been identified and are being implemented
- Promote Principles of Prevention and Hierarchy of Control
- Deliver on-going approved HS&W Training to meet project/s and business unit requirements
- Actively support the Project/s Specific Supply Chain Engagement Strategies
- Undertake HS&W Champions roles as directed by HS&W Manager / Lead and feedback to wider team
- Actively reserve proportionate time for HS&W innovation & best practice research
- Support project teams with the development & review of SSOW
- Assist in the development of HS&W Case Studies from signature projects
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- Health, Safety and Wellbeing Qualifications – Attained, (or working towards) relevant NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ, NVQ (Level 6 or comparable)
- Ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture
- Competence in incident & accident investigation
- Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework & UK Business Management System
- Ability to prepare formal written reports and publications on HS&W topics
- Demonstrate commitment to continual learning to refine, further develop and apply expertise to add distinctive value to customers and Balfour Beatty
- Broad experience of construction and civils projects
- Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) competence
- Ability to engage and converse at all levels
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Additional relevant skills and qualifications in any technical area
- To hold or working toward Graduate Membership of IOSH (GradIOSH)
- Recognised Internal Auditor qualification
- Good understanding of CDM 2015 – Roles and Responsibilities
- Environmental and Sustainability Qualification
