Our Lower Thames Crossing project is one of the UK’s most ambitious and transformative infrastructure developments. Joining this high-profile project as a Section Engineer means being at the forefront of innovation, sustainability, and engineering excellence, ensuring that we deliver a world-class solution for future generations.

Are you ready to make an impact? If you’re an experienced Section Engineer with a passion for engineering and teamwork, then this is your chance to be part of something monumental.

  •

What you'll be doing

As a Section Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and manage a key section of the Lower Thames Crossing works, ensuring that every detail is delivered to the highest possible standard, on time, and in a safe manner. You’ll be instrumental in coordinating, directing, and support a team of Site Engineers to ensure smooth operations across your section.

Here’s a breakdown of the exciting tasks you’ll take ownership of:

  • Leading Safety Efforts: You’ll take the lead in producing Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and safety audits, ensuring that everyone on site is operating safely and in line with the highest standards of practice. You’ll mentor less experienced staff and create a culture of safety across your team.

  • Project Management Excellence: From preparing and raising Temporary Works Briefs to following up to ensure that these tasks are executed efficiently and safely, you will play a key role in driving the project’s success. Your attention to detail will ensure timely and correct implementation of these critical tasks.

  • Quality Assurance: Maintaining the highest standards of quality control will be a core part of your role. You will ensure that Site Engineers complete the necessary quality checksheets in a timely and accurate manner and maintain a comprehensive filing system aligned with the Project Quality Handover requirements.

  • Technical Expertise: As a Section Engineer, you'll identify and raise Technical Queries (RFIs) with possible solutions. Your in-depth knowledge of specifications and your ability to track and close out RFIs will contribute to a smooth project delivery.

  • Setting Out & Installation: You will provide primary setting out control for your section, ensuring that the optimum locations for installations are identified and executed correctly. You'll also support junior engineers by coaching them in using the project specifications and ensuring adherence to the highest standards.

  • Mentoring & Team Development: You’ll play an active role in supporting and mentoring junior engineers, encouraging them to develop their skills and take ownership of tasks within their areas of responsibility. This role is about more than just engineering; it’s about nurturing the next generation of engineering talent.

Who we're looking for

We’re looking for a Section Engineer who is driven, focused, and able to lead by example. You’ll have a keen eye for detail and a passion for quality, safety, and efficiency. Ideally, you’ll bring the following experience and qualifications:

  • Leadership: You have proven experience leading and mentoring teams. Your ability to clearly communicate the requirements of safe systems of work, as well as suggest improvements, will be crucial in ensuring success across your section.

  • Problem-Solving Mindset: You’re comfortable identifying and addressing challenges on site, raising RFIs and proposing solutions. You’re capable of handling complex issues with a calm and methodical approach.

  • Experience & Qualifications: You hold a current CSCS card and have a valid driving license. You’re also SSSTS or SMSTS qualified. Ideally, you have experience working on large infrastructure projects, specifically in highway construction or similar sectors.

  • Independence & Initiative: You can work autonomously, seeking out opportunities for improvement in line with your level of responsibility. You’re proactive and enjoy taking ownership of tasks, communicating outcomes clearly and confidently.

  • Flexible & Dedicated: You understand the need to work flexibly, including during unsociable hours or nights, to ensure the project progresses smoothly. Your strong work ethic and commitment to quality and safety set you apart.
