About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Digital Lead to join out growing team.


Base location can be flexible - Travel across the UK is required (full UK driving License required)


As a Digital Lead you will lead the digitalisation of Business Processes and Operating Practices in line with the PT&D Digital & IM Strategy. Build relationships and work with Project Teams, Supply Chain and Clients to promote and implement digital solutions & IM best practice during their delivery &handover phases. Ultimately realising and capturing the benefits of coordinated digital ways of working.

What you'll be doing



  • Accountable for effective planning, management, reporting and coordination of
    projects/initiatives to deliver change in line with the PT&D Digital & IM Strategy.

  • Work with the Digital Lead D&E to coordinate on improvements which are linked
    to/impact the different phases of projects.

  • Ensure standardised approach as much as possible across our projects and departments.

  • Drive the adoption of established digital minimum expectations into to all local projects.

  • Provide governance over the use of digital tools both in terms quantity and quality of use.

  • Work with digital teams across BB group to share best practice in digital change.

  • Responsibility for tracking and reporting on the use of digital tools, highlighting the value gained from the implementation of digital processes.

  • Assess the adoption of new software against the business process it aims to fulfil.

  • Engage early with all stakeholders to develop the projects digital strategy, Information Management Plan and customer requirements.

  • Ensure the Information Management Plan contains and communicates the
    processes/culture/technology required to deliver customer/industry requirements.

  • Identify and review new ways of working which will benefit the project by increasing efficiency, reducing cost, improve quality, sustainability and aiming for Zero Harm.

  • Provide customers, regions, sectors and frameworks reports, presentations, case studies and KPI’s to demonstrate the benefits of BB capabilities and experience.

  • Enthusiastically and openly sharing guidance and technical expertise whilst ensuring that learning resources are widely available.

  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm 


Who we're looking for

Technical skills & experience



  • Extensive experience within construction industry experience (does not have to be in power transmission or distribution).

  • Robust understanding of core construction processes (RAMS, Permits, ITPs, QC checks, Short Term Planning, Temporary Works etc)

  • Working knowledge of project CDE environments

  • Understanding of the UK BIM Framework, Protocols, and IM best practicesCan demonstrate strong technical ability to use and adopt digital platforms, for example:


Autodesk products



  • BIM 360 and ACC

  • Navisworks


Microsoft O365



  • Excel

  • Power Bi (to interact with a report, not build one)

  • PowerPoint

  • SharePoint


The following qualities/experience are essential:



  • BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng, HND/HDC or qualified by demonstrable experience

  • Open minded and positive approach to problem solving.

  • Self-discipline to take independent action and permanent desire to learn.

  • Can lead, coach and inspire others to improve the digital ability & confidence.

  • Experience of BIM and Digital Construction within the construction and engineering industry (including PAS 1192 / BS ISO 19650 requirements and related technology)

  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to form effective relationships.

  • Onsite contractor experience delivering large complex schemes.

  • Proficiency in IT and experience in multiple digital processes on pervious schemes

  • Demonstrable track record of developing and managing a multiple disciplined team.

  • Firm understanding of Design, Construction, Handover stages in the digital lifecycle
