Exciting Opportunity: Assistant Project Manager – M25 London Orbital Motorway

Are you ready to take your career to the next level?

We have an incredible opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join Balfour Beatty Connect Plus Services (CPS) and be a part of the M25 London Orbital Motorway Project.

This role can be based at our Leatherhead, South Mimms, or Dartford offices, with occasional travel to projects or other office locations. Some site visits, including night shifts, may be required.

At CPS, a joint venture with Balfour Beatty, Atkins, and Egis, we operate and maintain the busiest motorway in Europe—the M25. With over £100m annual investment, we carefully plan and execute essential infrastructure improvements alongside ongoing maintenance. If you're looking for a high-impact career in highways, there’s no better place to gain unmatched experience and take on exciting challenges.

What you'll be doing

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will play a vital role in delivering lower-risk highways and technology projects or supporting more complex schemes. These projects span the full lifecycle—from feasibility through to handover—and range in value from £100k to £3m+, covering safety improvements, environmental projects, technology enhancements, remedial works, and junction upgrades.

Some key responsibilities will be:

  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to align on project goals.

  • Ensure compliance with the DBFO contract, manage risks, track progress, and maintain accurate project documentation.

  • Assist in planning, resourcing, and delivering projects to achieve successful outcomes.

  • Support projects throughout their entire lifecycle, from feasibility and design through to construction and completion.

  • Support the development of robust cost profiles, identifying risks and resource requirements.

  • Monitor and address emerging risks, issues, and dependencies, escalating as needed.

  • Oversee the performance of Framework Contractors and Designers, ensuring objectives for safety, time, and cost are met.

  • Contribute to sustainability initiatives, including net zero and biodiversity net gain.

  • Work closely with construction and supervision teams to ensure all permits, certificates, and reporting align with project needs.

Working arrangements:

  • Ability and willingness to travel to other offices and depots on the network as and when required.

  • Periodic requirement for site visits (night shift)

Who we're looking for

We need a proactive, self-motivated professional with a strong project background, eager to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in delivering multiple projects concurrently within a team environment.

  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence multiple parties.

  • A commercially focused mindset, ensuring projects meet time and cost objectives.

  • High resilience and problem-solving ability to manage challenges effectively.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills to convey strategies clearly.

  • Experience in managing and maintaining detailed project plans in coordination with contractors, designers, and partners.
