What you'll be doing
- As a member of the Rail Executive Leadership Team, contribute to the implementation of the Rail business strategy
- Own the P&L for the Rail Systems business, ensuring that our projects are delivering to budget and contributing to the wider Rail Business being able to achieve its budget
- Build and maintain healthy client relationships, creating opportunities for new work to ensure a healthy pipeline and order book
- Use business intelligence to anticipate programme developments and identify future opportunities to drive profitable and sustainable growth
- Stay abreast of key client and government initiatives and developments to anticipate future programme opportunities
- Develop and maintain collaborative and meaningful relationships with clients and understand and anticipate customer needs in order to identify, develop and secure long term growth
- As a business leader will lead by example to deliver on Build to Last objectives of:
- Lean – Control costs and effectively manage and deliver against budget for their business
- Trusted - Live the values & demonstrate the Leadership Behaviours; actively lead Rail Systems to ensure the delivery of the positive economic, social, and environmental outcomes
- Expert - Build a learning organisation that develops, retains, and promotes talent
- Safe - Ensure a personal relentless focus on Zero Harm
- Sustainable - Carbon reduction and maximise social value
- Build and retain a high performing team that is flexible, motivated, and engaged to deliver the Rail Strategy

- Provide strong operational input into the tender process, assess bids from a performance perspective and approve relevant bid “stage gates”
- Build strong relationships with all partners to deliver value, enhance revenue growth and reputation for effective delivery within the sector
- Ensure effective project set-up, design, and delivery to deliver customer satisfaction and the agreed commercial outcomes
- Create and foster a learning culture which encourages sharing of best practice, knowledge, and expertise to act as a though leader within the industry
- Leading by example and setting the behavioural standards needed to relentlessly drive the highest standards of safety and wellbeing.
Who we're looking for
- Successful track record of leading a P&L for a portfolio or programmes or projects in the infrastructure sector
- Can demonstrate collaborative working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the efficient running of the rail business; relationship builder with evidence of building national relationships with customers and strategic partners
- Ability to manage large projects and programmes of work in a complex, matrix organisation
- Commercially astute, exhibit a high level of determination, versatility and adapt to on change
- Excellent leadership skills, which encompass a high degree of empathy and support
