What you'll be doing
- Key Accountabilities:
• Set the strategic direction for their team in line with department procedures, the client and
internal service levels whilst retaining full responsibility for the team.
• Actively promote and demonstrate Group values and behaviours through day-to-day work.
• Ensure adherence to Governance processes and the Gated lifecycle.
- Key Responsibilities:
• Line Management.
• Responsible for the team’s productivity and performance.
• Responsible for nominating the Lead Designer and any other required key roles for each project as well as for general work allocation within their team.
• Responsible for managing the discipline’s workload across the multiple locations (UK, EDC) in collaboration with the local Team Leads.
• Responsible for the team’s resourcing, ensuring enough and competent staff for delivering the team’s current and future workload.
• Ensure a high level of team-work and cohesion between staff is maintained at all times.
• Closely collaborate with other Design Delivery Managers and promote team collaborate with the Designers and Technicians from the other disciplines involved in each project to ensure coordination of different disciplines working on the same projects.
• Actively liaise with the Engineering Managers for the projects the team is working on.
• When prioritisation is required, liaise with Head of Engineering and Head of Design Delivery in order to define the best course of action.
• Work in close collaboration with the discipline Chief Engineer for developing and maintaining team’s technical competencies and expertise.
- • Work in close collaboration with the discipline Chief Engineer on any technical challenges affecting tender development and live projects.
• Work in close collaboration with the discipline Chief Engineer and the Head of Design Technical to resource technology projects.
• Support Lead Designer during tender development. Responsible for ensuring the budget, programme and risks for their team’s activities for each tender are adequate and provided in a timely manner.
• Track and report on progress and key issues to the Senior Leadership Team.
• Responsible for promoting the application of technical innovations proposed and developed by both the Technical and Digital teams.
• Ensure delivery of their discipline’s scope of work for each project on time and on budget, in compliance with customer requirements, quality standards and safety by design principles.
• Ensure succession plans are in place for their own role, as well for any other key roles within the team (Principal Design Engineers, CDAE, Technical Experts, etc.).
• Liaise with Project Controls team to ensure all staff relevant information is up to date.
Who we're looking for
- Skills Required:
• Degree level education or the equivalent with formal training in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Expert level of knowledge and understanding relating to Overhead Power Line design, with extensive experience in a Senior Design / Leadership Role in this discipline.
• Expert knowledge of UK and European design codes and standards for the Electricity Supply Industry, e.g., SSE, National Grid and ENA Technical Specifications, BS EN 50341/ IEC 60826 and IEC Standards in general.
• Familiarity with CAD Packages used in Line Design.
• Excellent communicator, group leader with exceptional organisational skills.
