About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Estimator, to join our Power Transmission & Distribution business based in Maxim Eurocentral, Motherwell, Scotland. The candidate will primarily be focussed on estimating for projects associated with Power Cabling up to 400kV for clients including SSE and SPEN, but may also be required to work on other workstreams associated with Power T&D's client portfolio.


The candidate will be providing estimating support to the existing cabling estimating team and whilst an experienced estimator is preferred this is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to begin their career in estimating, or transition into a new sector. The ideal candidate will have a keen aptitude for organisation, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the drive to learn and grow within the role.


 

What you'll be doing

As an Estimator, your main responsibilities will be as follows:-



  • Ensure compliance with Gated Lifecycle, Bid Governance, and Balfour Beatty Code of Conduct.

  • Maintain accurate estimating files for audit and governance requirements.

  • Manage subcontractor and supplier enquiries to support tender submissions.

  • Prepare error-free tender estimates, including risk & opportunity registers.

  • Oversee smooth handover from estimating to commercial, operational, and finance teams for contract wins.

  • Review and distribute client tender documents, including queries, briefings, and revisions.

  • Conduct risk grading for tenders as per governance processes.

  • Build and maintain client relationships, identifying future business opportunities.

  • Ensure all tender data (e.g., labour and plant rates) is current and relevant.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities and experience are preferred:



  • Experience in a similar role;

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Understanding of Risk & Opportunity analysis;

  • Good financial acumen with an ability to analyse complex data and documentation accurately;

  • Knowledge and experience of forms of contract (e.g. NEC + options, FIDIC etc)

  • Good oral and written communication skills;

  • Ability to communicate and present to senior executive team and clients.

  • Proficient in general IT applications e.g. Word and Excel, and standard estimating software e.g. CANDY.
