Are you ready to power up your career and make a real difference in the UK’s energy future? Join Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team as an Overhead Line (OHL) Site Engineer and be part of the team driving the growth of the National Grid.


We’re seeking an experienced and dynamic OHL Site Engineer to oversee and support projects from Melksham to Newbury. As part of our dedicated Power T&D team, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient work that supports the UK’s energy infrastructure.

What you'll be doing


  • Attend periodic project reviews / project meetings

  • Maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries etc.)

  • Prepare both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders

  • Helps to ensure reports provide relevant information to enable informed, cost-
    effective decisions in line with overall strategy

  • Helps to ensure scope and package assignment supports the team in
    coordinated working

  • Specify, understand and implement technical information and drawings into
    delivery

  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in
    legislation

  • Responsible for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and
    supply chain

  • Support periodic Safety & Environmental Tours/promote observation and safety
    initiative

  •  Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and suggest
    improvement solutions

  • Write and understand RAMS

  • Identifying, raising and reporting risks and hazards

  • Support incident and H&S responses

  • Understand, control and issue safety documentation

  • Completion of audits

  • Setting people to work

  • Log and escalate any issues that cannot be resolved at delegated level of
    authority

  • Follow targets/KPI’s in line with project objectives and monitor performance

  • Help to ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take appropriate action on findings

  • Contribute towards workshops that cover the principles of continuous improvement Planning

  • Help to develop, implement and periodically update resource loaded schedules

  • Ensure team adopt productivity and project controls techniques

  • Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes/hold weekly
    meeting

  • Ensure production of operational milestones reflect master schedule and
    customer expectations

  • Coordinate with other project activities and internal functions

  • Maintain Digital Group Minimum Standards and operate with appropriate level
    of digital tools

  • Ensure the team has the correct level of digital training

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are desirable:



  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work

  • Experience in managing risks and change processes

  • Good understanding of the standard forms of contracts

  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the
    organisation

  • Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at
    all levels across the business and be able to negotiate and influence

  • Able to undertake work in high pressure situations with a flexible attitude

  • A record of a solutions-based approach to problem solving

  • Demonstrate awareness and support of the benefits of diversity and inclusion

  • Identify and drive personal development

  • Proficient on O365



The candidate is likely to have the following:



  • Holds or working towards a formal qualification in construction/engineering or
    equivalent industry experience

  • Holds CSCS and SSSTS or equivalent
