What you'll be doing
The successful candidate will:
- Create comprehensive strategies focused on market analysis, customer segmentation, and competitor evaluation to identify key opportunities;
- Define and prioritise target customers by identifying high-value prospects and understanding their needs, behaviours, and decision-making processes;
- Design and implement tailored engagement plans, utilising multiple channels and touchpoints to effectively penetrate target markets and foster long-term relationships;
- Work with existing customers to deepen relationships and to explore new opportunities;
- Stay informed about industry trends, market shifts and emerging opportunities to continuously refine targeting strategies and maintain competitive advantage;
- Always ensure that the sector strategy is fully aligned and representative of the broader Balfour Beatty Rail business strategy;
- Work with functional leads to contribute to long term strategies for the Plant business, identifying markets and opportunities for growth;
- Maintain engagement with the broader group of Balfour Beatty business units to ensure the awareness of activity within the sector to include any key pursuits, seeking where possible an opportunity to promote the wider business strengths in the value proposition;
- Develop a pipeline of high-quality, profitable opportunities with the right business fit that fully satisfy the circles of risk as defined by the business and whose customers align with the business values;
- Own the strategy for the sector to include all associated research, review, and associated communication aligned with the implementation of it to underpin the financial and operational targets for the respective business plan years;
- Secure revenue required to meet budget and manage and control costs within it.
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- A successful Business Development background in a Rail organisation;
- Knowledge of working within a regulated industry and with a strong list of contacts;
- Ability to communicate and influence effectively to develop and maintain customer relationships;
- Strong business and strategic acumen;
- Thorough knowledge of business development and creating negotiated framework and bid opportunities;
- An ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts;
- Attention to detail and sees things through to completion;
- Good interpersonal skills and acts in an independent and professional manner with the ability to influence others including senior management;
- Ambitious, able to work within a multi-discipline team and capable of developing further within the organisation;
- A self-starter who manages their own time and seeks to add value to their function;
- Leads, develops and coaches individuals to build high performing teams and creates a pipeline of talent.
