About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exiting opportunity for a Section Engineer to join the business in the South West. This role is a crucial hire for the business working on a project on behalf of National Grid.

What you'll be doing

As a Section Engineer within Balfour Beatty, you will:


 



• Live the Balfour Beatty Values
Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm
Support the delivery of CSUK’s Sustainability activities
Carry out complex setting out
Provision of ‘primary’ setting out control and recognizes the optimum location for installation
Coaches subordinates in the use of setting out techniques
Use of AutoCAD or similar to process survey information
Produces Inspection & Testing Plans
Actively uses the Specification as a reference document
Maintains a comprehensive filing system of quality records
Identifies, raises and actions Non Conformance Reports
Identifies and raises Technical Queries with possible solutions
Undertake Temporary Works Supervisor duties and support the Temporary Works Coordinator
Manage Low Risk Temporary Works on site and issue Temporary Works Permits
Produces Method Statements and Risk Assessments
Prepares and raises Temporary Works Briefs
Carries out ‘short term’, Visitors Induction
Completes Accident Book and associated reports as required
Produces a weekly programme and measures progress against KPI’s
Communicates weekly programme and targets to the workforce
Leads the daily site Short Interval Control planning meeting
Collates Weekly Measure information and monitors costs against budget allowances / KPI’s
Produces weekly measure. Take offs and schedules materials accurately, producing accurate and clear requisitions, following through to delivery
Works to specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers
Production of accurate daily diary highlighting commercial issues


Who we're looking for

We are looking for a Section Engineer with:


 


Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately
Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes
Strong work ethic
Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility
Holds a current driving license, CSCS Card, CAT & Genny training and SMSTS
Must be a good team player, with strong communication and interpersonal skills
Able to carry out complex setting out
Able to use AutoCAD or similar for processing survey information
Understands and has experience of producing ITP
Understanding of construction tolerances
Awareness of Specification and other Contract documents
Understands Permit System and actively raises permits to Work
Is able to identify potential hazards and is proactive in implementing actions and controls
Understands and can use the information provided in the 13 week Stage Programme
Good understanding of key contract documentation
Understands specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers
