Take a look at some of our projects

Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh

Forming a critical part of the RGBE's ambitious 'Edinburgh Biomes' plan, we're restoring the garden's Grade-A listed palm houses, home to 800 plant specimens. This is a centrepiece on our roadmap towards the zero carbon construction site of the future - we recently spent 6-weeks trialling a fleet of all-electric plant to push the boundaries of what's possible and pave the way for the future.

Scotland's first net zero prison

HMP Highland is a landmark project - and the area's first new prison for more than a century. This 18,500m2 facility will use renewable energy sources, modular construction and walls preassembled offsite to reduce carbon emissions. We'll also increase capacity, the quality of its working environments - and ultimately, rehabilitation opportunities and people's chances of success beyond prison.

Glasgow's Stockingfield Bridge

This new £13.7m bridge across the Forth & Clyde Canal connects the three communities of Maryhill, Gilshochill and Ruchill for the first time since the waterway opened in 1790. Creating a traffic-free route between Glasgow and Edinburgh, it's opened up access routes, employment prospects and wellbeing opportunities for everyone.

Aberdeen's Union Terrace Gardens

As part of the Council’s City Centre Masterplan project, we’ve renovated the historic Union Terrace Gardens. With new pavilions, an accessible walkway, landscaping and lighting, we have transformed this Victorian park into an inclusive 21st century space. Councillor Jenny Laing says, “The city is moving forward as one and making history as we go.”

A9 Tomatin to Moy

The Tomatin to Moy project will significantly improve road safety by replacing at-grade junctions with grade-separated junctions and providing safer overtaking opportunities. The improvements will reduce driver stress, improve journey times and the overall operational effectiveness of the route. It will also bring significant economic benefits to local communities, businesses, and to the tourism industry throughout Scotland, by improving access to and from the Highlands.

Smart Working is about making the best use of our locations, technology and time to best meet the needs of our business, our projects, our customer, our teams and employees. It's Balfour Beatty's approach to when, where and how our employees work. It is much more than a flexible working policy; it's about living our values and the supportive, inclusive culture that we've set out in our Cultural Framework. It covers all the stages of employee's careers and considers arrangements and flexibility to meet their needs at different times. We have fixed offices in Motherwell and Inverness. However, our teams can be found shaping the future on inspiring and iconic sites right across Scotland.

Motherwell

Surrounded by extensive parkland, our Motherwell office is perfectly positioned between Glasgow and Edinburgh. With a gym, nursery, deli and even a hair salon, there are plenty of fantastic facilities to enjoy on-site.

Inverness

Based in a brand new, sustainable building, which includes towpaths and plenty of green space, our office in Inverness helps us maintain close connections with our customers in the Highlands.

Partnerships and memberships

We work with a group of leading external partners to develop relationships, learn from their specialist knowledge and benefit from external verification and benchmarks. We limit the wide range of pledges and partnerships we support to focus on quality relationships that will most effectively drive the delivery of our strategy and plan.

There’s always lots going on in our Scottish teams. Whether it’s graduates or senior leaders, planning managers, engineers or administrators, we’re always looking for people with different skills and backgrounds to join us and shape Scotland.
