Value Everyone - UK D&I Strategy
At Balfour Beatty, we value everyone and are committed to creating a diverse workforce by fostering an inclusive culture, which nurtures people of all genders and backgrounds.
Ultimately, we want to be an employer of choice for high quality, talented people no matter their gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, social background, or religion; not only because this is the right thing to do, but because harnessing the creativity and innovation of a diverse range of people will make us a better business.
As a company that looks to achieve meaningful, sustainable changes – not quick fixes, we recognise that change must be led from the top. Our Group Chief Executive, Leo Quinn, is our board-level sponsor for equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring momentum and a true cultural shift throughout our organisation.
We aim to achieve the FTSE Women Leaders Review and Parker Report recommendations for female and minority ethnic representation as soon as is practicably possible, through succession planning for the Board and other initiatives for senior leaders within the business.
Across our geographies, we’re taking action by running our own diversity and inclusion focussed events such as our annual ‘Together Allies Summit’ in the US, the ‘Building Belonging through Allyship’ event in Hong Kong and participating in external events such as National Inclusion Week in the UK. Working closely with our Affinity Networks, we continue to deepen our understanding in all areas of diversity and inclusion.
In the UK, our Diversity and Inclusion strategy is sponsored by our Group Chief Executive, Leo Quinn. To help us deliver its strategic goals, our UK Value Everyone Action Plan sets out in detail the steps we are taking to boost the diversity of our business, including the targets we’ve set to help accelerate the pace of change:
- Increasing the number of female colleagues by 50% by 2030 against a 2021 baseline.
- Increasing Minority Ethnic and Black representation by 60% by 2030, against a 2021 baseline.
